During the war, brass bands in the Burnley area lacked support, but with the help of Colonel Parkinson, with instruments and musicians from the local bands, they formed the Burnley Home Guard Band.
The band continued after the war and because the band was formed from an alliance of many bands, in 1951 the name was changed to the Alliance Silver Band.
The band as it is today is self supporting and has about 25 permanent players. Burnley Alliance also has a thriving junior section comprising of 30-40 players, from ages 6-16 years, under the leadership of Mr Colin Mason.
We are always looking for new players to join both of the bands, so, if you are interested in joining or know anyone whom might be, please contact the Secretary (for details of how, please click here). We are currently looking for Cornet, Baritone, Tenor Horn, Euphonium and Trombone players in particular to strengthen these fine Lancashire Bands.
